Privacy Policy for PDFForge Reader

Privacy Policy for PDFForge Reader

Last updated: June 14, 2026

PDFForge Reader (“the extension”) is a local-first PDF reader and toolkit for Google Chrome. Your privacy is the core of how it is built. This policy explains what the extension does and does not do with your information.

Summary

PDFForge Reader does not collect, store, transmit, sell, or share any personal data or document content. All processing happens locally on your device. Your files never leave your computer.

The files you open

PDFs and images you open or create with the extension are processed entirely within your browser, on your device. They are never uploaded to any server, sent to us, or shared with any third party. The extension makes no network requests and requires no internet connection to function. When you close a document or the extension, that file’s data is released from memory.

Information stored on your device

The extension uses Chrome’s local storage (chrome.storage.local) only to remember your own settings, so the app behaves the way you left it:

  • Your theme preference (light or dark)
  • Your language preference (English or Spanish)
  • A list of recently opened files — names and basic metadata only (such as page count and file size). The actual contents of your files are never stored.

This information stays on your device. It is not transmitted anywhere and is not accessible to us or to anyone else. You can clear the recent-files list at any time from the extension’s Settings, or by removing the extension.

Permissions

The extension requests a single permission, storage, used solely to save the preferences described above. It requests no host permissions and cannot read or access the websites you visit.

Data we collect

None. We do not collect analytics, telemetry, usage statistics, crash reports, IP addresses, or any other personal information. There are no trackers, no advertising, and no third-party services embedded in the extension.

Third parties

The extension is built with the open-source libraries PDF.js (Apache-2.0) and pdf-lib (MIT). These libraries run locally inside the extension and do not transmit any data.

Children’s privacy

The extension does not collect any data from anyone, including children.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the “Last updated” date above will be revised. Material changes will be reflected in the extension’s listing.
