MaterialScout: Construction Price Board (Chrome extension)
Effective date: June 15, 2026 · Last updated: June 15, 2026
In one sentence: MaterialScout stores everything locally in your browser, collects no personal data, uses no analytics or tracking, and never sends your materials, projects, or browsing activity to us or anyone else.
1. Who this applies to
This policy covers the MaterialScout: Construction Price Board browser extension (“the extension”, “we”, “us”). By installing or using the extension you agree to this policy.
2. What the extension does
The extension lets you capture product/material information from web pages you choose, normalize prices to a comparable unit cost, compare suppliers, build project budgets, and export that information. It is a personal productivity tool.
3. Information the extension handles
When you click a MaterialScout action on a product page, the extension reads the visible product details on that page — such as title, price, currency, SKU/model, brand, stock status, image URL, and the page URL — so you can review and save them. It also stores data you create yourself: projects, quantities, tags, notes, settings, and per-site field-mapping templates.
All of this is stored locally on your device using the browser’s IndexedDB and chrome.storage.local. It is never uploaded to us or to any third-party server.
4. What we do NOT do
- We do not collect, receive, or store your data on any server.
- We do not use analytics, tracking, advertising, or fingerprinting.
- We do not sell or share your data with third parties.
- We do not require an account, login, or any personal information.
- We do not crawl, scrape in the background, or read pages without your action.
- We do not use your data for creditworthiness or lending decisions.
5. Network requests
The extension makes essentially no network requests. The single exception is optional: when you click “Update rates” in Settings, it fetches public exchange rates from api.frankfurter.app (European Central Bank data). That request contains only a currency query (for example from=MXN&to=USD,EUR) — it includes none of your materials, projects, or personal data. If you never press that button, no request is made.
6. Permissions
The extension requests the minimum permissions needed: activeTab and scripting (read the current page only after you click), storage (save your settings locally), downloads (export your files), and alarms + notifications (optional price watching). Access to specific websites for the optional price watcher is requested only when you enable it for that site, and can be revoked anytime at chrome://extensions.
7. Data retention & deletion
Your data stays on your device until you delete it. You can remove everything at any time via Settings → Clear local data, or by uninstalling the extension, which removes its local storage.
8. Children’s privacy
The extension is a professional tool and is not directed to children under 13, and it collects no personal information from anyone.
9. Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, we will update the “Last updated” date above and, for material changes, note it in the extension’s changelog.
